RE-NEWED REFLECTIONS

Every week I walk around the bulky waste in my neighbourhood in Amsterdam to ‘save’ usable items and materials from being destroyed. From the broken mirrors I make these brooches.

Brooch made from wasted broken mirrors

I made brooches from broken mirrors that I found in the trash. Each brooch is unique, and they all have their own shape.

Soldered frame of silver tin

The sharp edges of the mirror are covered with a soldered layer of silver tin. This frames the mirror and creates a special contrast.

Broken mirror = bad luck

If you are superstitious, don’t worry. The website of the University of Caroline states that this superstition comes from the ancient Romans. They considered damaging a mirror as disrespectful and believed that the gods would bring bad luck to those who were so careless.
With this brooch you give a broken mirror a new life. I believe that the gods will only be happy about this.

Reuse waste or leftover material

I find it a challenge to give new value to leftover material and waste. Is your company looking for a way to reuse waste or leftover material? Please contact me so we can discuss the possibilities.
